A PORT Glasgow road will be closed today for seven months as part of a major house-building programme.
Parkhill Avenue will be shut off to allow workers to install a sewer system to service new houses, right, being built in the area.
River Clyde Homes are erecting 102 properties as part of 'Woodhall' Phase 1 of a wider development to regenerate the town.
A spokesman for River Clyde Homes said: "This is a significant project and the road will be closed in 100-metre sections.
"Woodhall Community Association and residents have been informed, as has road services.
"This is part of our development of 850 homes we are building across Inverclyde."
Police have confirmed the road will remain open to emergency vehicles and pedestrians at all times, but diversions will be in place for buses and cars. Traffic management constable Paul MacPherson, of Greenock police, said: "Vehicles will be diverted along the Clune Brae, Kilmacolm Road, Arran Avenue and into Parkhill Avenue and vice versa via High Carnegie Road heading towards Greenock.
"The closure will move along as the work progresses. It is a long time for a road closure. The problem is these systems are quite deep and there has to be a full closure for the safety of workmen."
Constable MacPherson said: "I will be looking at the site to establish if it's having any impact on local traffic. If there are any problems we will be doing what we can to help."
