THE regeneration of Inverclyde's waterfront is continuing with a planning application to build nearly 100 new houses on the site of a former Inverclyde shipyard.
Two years ago the council gave Kenmore Homes permission to build 159 houses and 33 flats on the site of the former Scott Lithgow Kingston shipyard in Port Glasgow.
Now Persimmon Homes wants to build a further 96 homes there.
It hopes to get planning permission for two and three-bedroom terraced homes, as well as three and four-bedroom semi-detached and four bedroom detached properties.
And it is hoped to start building later this year.
There will be two separate applications for 47 and 49 homes.
John Cassie, regional chairman of Persimmon Homes Scotland, said the company continued to see the new homes market improve.
Compared with this time last year, they have seen completions increase by more than 10 per cent.
He said: "Visitors to our developments have remained stable and, in line with our expectations and we are pleased to report the ongoing strength of growing confidence in our consumer decision-making, with cancellation rates still lower than the industry average for this time of year.
"We recognise this time of year usually brings a seasonal slowdown and we have seen a short delay in reservations while everyone waited for the emergency budget announcement.
"Since then reservations have begun to improve as we had expected."
Mr Cassie said the company was in a much stronger position to react locally to the new homes market.
He said: "We are adapting our investment decisions to suit accordingly, and we look forward to ever-improving mortgage availability assisting the confidence that we see in our forward order book.
"Over the last six months we have recruited a further nine new members of staff to cope with increased activity on all of our existing and new developments. This positive step is underpinned by our firm belief that the underlying demand for new homes in our area remains strong." The plans will now be considered by Inverclyde Council's planning board.
