A PORT Glasgow couple have appeared on TV in front of millions of viewers in an ad for Scotland's favourite fizzy drink.

Stephen Conway, 25, originally from the town's Southfield Avenue, and fiancee Lisa Stewart, 24, are the stars of Irn-Bru's latest advert.

Their faces appear in the seaside cartoon scene which turns into real-life characters in the ad which features Scottish pop star Paolo Nutini's 'Pencil Full of Lead'.

The couple were nominated for the Irn Bru 'Star in the Ad' competition by Stephen's mum Christine after she uploaded photos of their faces into old-fashioned seaside cut-out boards on the company's website.

They had joked about getting the call to appear in the advert but were shocked when it actually happened.

Stephen, who works as a kitchen designer, told the Tele: "It was hilarious. My mum entered us and we kept asking if we had won the competition without really expecting to.

"One night Lisa and I mentioned to her that we must not have won but later that night she received an email saying we had been selected so that was a surprise.

"It was quite a shock but we were excited about it and when it was aired on Friday night we had both our parents and other people round to watch it and it was a good laugh." The couple, who now live in Paisley, were selected from thousands of entrants to be the faces of the ad which sees them as a cartoon couple enjoying a seaside romp where they brave a cloud of midges, go to the beach, play swingball and wade through mud at a festival.

The ad was screened during a peak-time double bill of soap Coronation Street.

Stephen said: "Everybody we knew were watching it - we made sure of that - and everybody in work has been keeping me going about it.

"We were chuffed to be on at that time because at first we thought it would be on late at night during the week. But when we found out it was prime time it was brilliant because millions of people would have been watching." Martin Steele, of Irn-Bru, added: "It was an historic moment for Irn-Bru and I hope Lisa and Stephen enjoyed being a part of it."
