POLICE have launched an investigation after a man's body was found in a Port Glasgow flat.

The discovery was made by police after they were called to the property in John Wood Street at 6am yesterday morning.

Locals looked on as police forensic teams and a fire investigation team worked within the common close at the flat before a body was taken away by officers.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said they were currently unable to confirm whether there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

She added: "Inquiries are at an early stage and no further information is available at this time."
