POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man had part of his ear bitten off.

The attack happened outside Port Glasgow Golf Club while a function was taking place inside.

The victim, a 32-year-old from Port Glasgow, needed surgery at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, pictured. He also suffered superficial cuts.

He had been at an event in the club and was assaulted outside it at 11pm on Saturday 18 June.

Detective Constable Stuart Young said the incident was reported to police only a few days ago.

He said: "There would have been people in the club at the time, and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this assault."

There is no description of the male attacker, who was on his own.

Witnesses are asked to call DC Young on 492676.
