POLICE are awaiting a crash report as part of an investigation into a serious road accident involving a traffic car last week.
Officers from the road policing department in Greenock are investigating the smash which happened on the A8 near to Finlaystone Estate on Thursday afternoon.
Three men, including a police officer were taken to hospital after a lorry struck the stationary police car which had stopped to go to the aid of a driver whose vehicle had broken down.
The officer and a passenger, a representative from government department VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency), suffered minor injuries but were released after treatment.
The lorry driver was also taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital but did not require treatment.
The crash caused major traffic disruption as a section of the A8 was closed in both directions for several hours.
Sergeant David Cameron, of Greenock's road policing department, said: "We are waiting for a crash report from the crash investigation unit to establish what happened that day.
"We would also urge any witnesses who haven't spoken to us yet, to come forward."
Anyone with information should call police on 492500.
