STAGE stars from a Port Glasgow family are preparing for a special 'home' performance of their own show.

Hand Me Down was created by 10 women from the McPherson family in the upper Port and is a funny and moving look at what has been passed down through the generations.

It was inspired by the characters chatting about stories from years gone by.

Their entertaining tales were transformed into a critically-acclaimed stage show which has had five star reviews - and it will now stop in Greenock as part of a Scottish tour.

The play - featuring Margaret, Moira, Helen, Lucinda, Molly, Emma, Francis, Kirsty, Christine and Helen - opens at the Arts Guild Theatre on Saturday.

One of the family members starring in the show is 38-year-old Kirsty Gibson who now lives in Greenock.

The Texas Instruments worker is looking forward to the tour but admits performing in front of some familiar faces in Greenock is daunting for the family.

She said: "There's myself, my mum, her two sisters, and her cousin all involved, along with three of my cousins and two of their daughters.

"We have never been involved in acting before, barring school plays.

"We're all terrified about the thought of playing the Arts Guild because it's local and so familiar to us - but it should be okay on the night." The unique stage show is being produced by Glas(s) Performances.

Kirsty added: "This all came about after my aunty Margaret saw an advert they placed looking for families with lots of women who can have a chat for some research.

"The people who put in the advert then came to visit us at my aunty Moira's house, where we have a weekly get-together on a Thursday, and they thought it was brilliant.

"We were then asked to make a show. I don't really see it as a play because we just talk about funny stories from the past and give out cake during the show." Tickets for the show, which is on at 3pm and 7.30pm are on sale now from the Arts Guild.
