MISSION OF MERCY: Father Brian McGee leads a group of young people on a life-changing journey to Kenya.
A PARISH priest hopes that a mercy mission to Kenya will help young people find faith in the most desperate of places.
Father Brian McGee, of Holy Family Church in Port Glasgow, is planning another journey out to support Greenock nun Sister Placida and her work in the Kenyan city of Kericho.
This time he is taking a group aged from 18 to 30 years old to show them God's work on the ground in a centre devoted to children scarred by the devastating impact of HIV and Aids.
Father McGee said: "I have been out before and I wanted to organise a visit for young people in the parish and beyond. I think this trip will make their faith stronger.
"They will see for themselves the work that is going on out there. I think it will have a lasting impact on them, to go out there and see how different it is.
"I hope that they will come back with a renewed faith and with some inspiration to change lives."
Greenock nun Sister Placida runs the Live for Hope Centre in the Kenyan city where she cares for children who have nowhere else to turn.
A group of 12 young people from Port Glasgow will make the journey to visit her for a month this summer.
During that time, they will help refurbish the centre and see first hand the life-saving work that goes on there.
In the Tele earlier this month, the young folk involved hoped that the once-in-a-lifetime trip would inspire them to do greater things with their own lives.
In the meantime, they have a series of fundraising events coming up to help fund the trip and raise as much money as possible for the centre.
Father McGee added: "They have had great support from the Holy Family Parish as well as the rest of Inverclyde."
The next fundraising event is a quiz night in St Patrick's Church Hall, Greenock, on 26 February at 8pm.
