POLICE are hunting two thugs who assaulted a man as he was walking home last night.

The 25-year-old was kicked and punched about the head and body after being confronted by the pair just before midnight in Jean Street in Port Glasgow.

He was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital by ambulance where he was detained for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Gerard McWatt, of Greenock CID, said: "The 25-year-old had come from Tesco and was on his way home when he was approached by two men who punched and kicked him about the head and body.

"He was taken to hospital and is still detained."

Police are treating the incident as a serious assault and say the culprits are in their 20s and were wearing dark clothing at the time.

DS McWatt said: "We are urging any witnesses to come forward."

Anyone with information should call 492500 or Crimestoppers.
