WORK by a local company on two new 'world-first ferries' is on target.

Ferguson Shipbuilders in Port Glasgow is building two new electric-diesel hybrid ferries to be used on Caledonian MacBrayne routes as part of a £20 million Scottish Government deal.

The firm was awarded a contract in November to build the new ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited to be used on CalMac services.

Richard Deane, Ferguson's managing director, says work is progressing well.

He told the Tele: "We are still on schedule for the work we are doing."
