HOLLYWOOD star Ross McCall caused a stir at his old Port school when he popped in for a surprise visit.

The A-list 38-year-old — who is currently filming a new series of hit American TV show 24 alongside Kiefer Sutherland — popped in to St Michael’s Primary School on Thursday.

The heart-throb, who now lives in LA, laughed and joked with pupils who enjoyed an exclusive question and answer session with the star.

Ross, who visited the school with his dad John from Gourock, said: “I’ve always wanted to come back to St Michael’s as I’ve got a lot of happy memories here but I’ve never had enough time to do it.

“As I’m filming 24 in London and I had some time off I thought I would come up and visit.

“It has been terrific meeting the children — they were all sweethearts and I was really impressed with how prepared they were with questions, which I think is testament to the teachers here.” Ross told the budding showbiz reporters about what it’s like to be friends with Hollywood’s biggest stars, like Tom Hanks and Adam Sandler.

The whole classroom also erupted into fits of giggles when Ross answered young Pamela Mathieson’s question about what inspired him to become a movie star.

He replied: “When I was younger I used to squeeze through an alleyway between the cinema and the betting shop.

“I used to shimmy up one of the pipes to get to the roof of the cinema where there was a shed.

“Inside the shed, there was light bulbs on the floor and I used to take out one of the bulbs and lie on the floor and peek through the hole to watch the movies.” Ross, who has also starred in Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers as well as CSI and has voiced Call of Duty computer games, also visited his old childhood home in Moorfield Avenue where Jim McIlroy now lives.

He said: “I knocked on the door of my old house and Jim answered.

“He was so friendly and let me look round the house — it was great.” Ross, who was formerly engaged to I Know What You Did Last Summer actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, is now dating a ‘beautiful Brazilian girl’.

This year he will also star in two films, In Embryo and The Beautiful Ones — which he also produced.
