ARROWS ace Gary Anderson is among four top flight players who are set to check-in to Inverclyde for the area’s biggest ever darts event.

The Flying Scotsman who won the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Premier League title in 2011, will step up to the oche in Port Glasgow alongside world number eight Andy Hamilton, two-time British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Champion Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey and Greenock’s own Mark Barilli.

The Inverclyde Masters event will take place in Boglestone Community Centre on Sunday 28 September and will see some of the game’s high flyers come to town.

It is being organised by Inverclyde Darts League (IDL) and Wilbur Darts Exhibitions.

Greenock man Jim Kincaid, chairman of IDL, said: “I’ve been playing darts for over 40 years and this is the biggest event I have ever known in Inverclyde.” As well as giving Inverclyde fans the chance to ‘checkout’ some of the best talent from the world of darts, the tourney will also give local competitors a rare opportunity to take on their heroes.

IDL bosses will be running qualifiers for its 200-odd members to add their name to the bill and pit their wits against the pros.

The matches will take place during the close season from July to September before the main event in Port Glasgow.

Event organiser and IDL member Colin McEachnie, from Greenock, said: “It’s going to be a great day. I’ve been planning this since September last year.

“There will be a full stage set-up and big screens so everybody will be able to see the action.” Joining Gary is Andy ‘The Hammer’ Hamilton, above right, who is currently ranked as the game’s number eight and was World Championship runner-up in 2012. Fans’ favourite Ted Hankey, pictured top, has lifted two world crowns during his career, with the line-up completed by Greenock darts ace Mark Barilli, who joined the PDC in January.

The event will help raise money for IDL and a chosen charity.

Tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks.
