WORLD Autism Day was celebrated at Craigmarloch school in Port Glasgow by taking part in a ‘bounce for autism’.
Depute head teacher, Joan Boyle, said it was to raise funds for the National Autistic Society Scotland.
She said: “The society also want to create awareness of autism by having children and young people bouncing in lots of different ways.
“The reason for this is that many people on the autism spectrum love to bounce as they find it fun, and a therapeutic activity.” Craigmarloch’s range of bouncing activities included using their new trampoline, which was bought to enable Rebound Therapy to take place in the school.
Joan explained: “Rebound Therapy is a programme using trampolines to provide opportunities for enhanced movement patterns, therapeutic positioning, exercise and recreation for a wide range of users with additional needs.” And she added: “In Craigmarloch we have more than 50 pupils with autism, and we encouraged all of our 140 pupils to ‘bounce for autism’!”
