CRUNCH talks today could decide the future of an under-threat Port community facility.

A meeting is being held to discuss the fate of Park Farm Community Hall after the committee who ran it stepped down suddenly following years of voluntary service.

It’s hoped that a new management group can be put in place so that the busy hall can be kept open for the groups who use it.

Port councillor Jim MacLeod helped to set up the talks with Inverclyde Leisure.

Councillor MacLeod said: “Within the last two weeks a couple of people contacted me who, along with several others, are interested in taking over the management and running of the hall.

“They asked for my help to take things forward and I was pleased to help facilitate a meeting with Inverclyde Leisure to look at this.

“I am very happy to support a new group who want to form a new committee to manage and run the community hall. I hope between the council and Inverclyde Leisure we can help support the new group to take over management of the hall.” He was also swift to praise council leader Stephen McCabe who publicly pledged in the Tele last week to support a new group.

Councillor MacLeod said: “I am glad to see there is support to get the Park Farm hall back opened again under a new group.

“It is in everyone’s interests to see the hall reopened. Until recently the community facility had been well managed and ran by a small and dedicated hard working committee who for 17 years had kept the hall running for the Park Farm and wider community.

“Regular groups using the hall have been the over-55s group, bingo, youth club and the tenants’ and residents’ association, as well as councillors for surgeries and various people for events, parties and special occasions.

“The previous committee are to be praised for their many years of voluntary work and dedication to the local community.” Today’s meeting is being held in Boglestone Community Centre at 2pm.
