WORK is set to start on two brand new £1.7 million office blocks in Port Glasgow.

Regeneration firm Riverside Inverclyde (RI) has confirmed that construction on the second part of its Kelburn Business Park project is ready to get under way.

Two more high class units will be built at the prime Port site, to add to the two which were completed as part of the £2.5m first phase.

The Scottish Government is putting up £1.5m for the two new blocks and it’s hoped the development will bring big business to Inverclyde, delivering a jobs boost for the area.

Gerry McCarthy, chairman of RI, said: “Phase one at Kelburn is already delivering some of the finest business accommodation in a perfect location.

“The announcement of phase two is a welcome development and will see another key project delivered on one of RI’s strategic development areas.

“When all the units are created Kelburn will deliver a modern, flexible industrial space in Inverclyde that will help build on the area’s reputation as a business location.” Regeneration bosses expect the site to prove an attractive proposition for firms because of its prime location and excellent transport links.

The business park is just off the A8 with access to the M8 motorway, is a short drive from Glasgow Airport and close to Woodhall railway station.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde environment and regeneration convener, said: “Kelburn Park has huge potential to attract inward investment and much needed employment opportunities to the local area, so I am delighted work has started on the new units.

“The site has excellent transport links sitting alongside the A8 and with phase one almost completed, the addition of a second phase will build on the offer of modern facilities in a fabulous location.” Margaret Burgess, minister for housing and welfare, said: “I am delighted we have been able to provide RI with an additional £1.5m to enable this investment in new business space in Inverclyde.

“This funding will create opportunities to attract businesses to Inverclyde, providing much needed jobs for local people.

“This highlights our regeneration strategy, which gives the framework for local action to tackle area inequality and address market failure.”
