A PORT councillor has called in the police after his photograph appeared on a Facebook page which contains offensive material.

Jim MacLeod was alerted to the non-authorised use of the picture and logged online to look for himself.

He was shocked to see that his photo was being used as the main profile shot for a boy’s Facebook page — alongside pictures which appear to show the same person making Nazi salutes.

The insult came after Jim was subjected to despicable abuse on the referendum campaign trial, twice being called a Nazi by local louts.

Councillor MacLeod, pictured, said: “I’m disappointed someone is using my pictures on the same page as making such gestures.

“It’s especially disappointing after some of the comments being made to me recently.

“I have no association with anything on that Facebook page.

“I don’t know this boy at all or why he has my picture on his Facebook page.” Jim says that the mindless Nazi salute photos on the page fronted up by his image are even more distasteful considering the fact that the country has united to remember the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One, and the sacrifices made by local soldiers who were called up.

He said: “Looking back at history, why on earth would anyone make these sort of salutes?

“There are a lot of positives from social media but the downside of it is that it can be so easily abused like this.

“People have to consider these sorts of things and face the consequences.” A police spokesman today confirmed that the matter had been been reported to them and was being looked into.

Mr MacLeod said: “I believe officers have spoken to the boy.”
