A PORT Glasgow punter did not have the luck of the Irish after bookies refused to pay out on a bet.

Hugh Jackson thought he was quids in after coming up with three numbers on the Irish lottery.

The pensioner, from Arran Avenue, was delighted to see he had won the treble with numbers 6, 7 and 11 in a second draw las Wednesday night.

But when he turned up at Paddy Power in West Blackhall Street to collect that night, he was told he was not being paid out.

Mr Jackson, a retired engineer, told the Telegraph: “I went down to collect my winnings. They have a board up with all the winning numbers and it matched that on my bet and on the 49s Irish Lotto Bet results.

“That website has always been accurate.

“I gave the manager my betting slip but it wouldn’t scan, he brought up the numbers on a system before him and and when he checked that screen and saw the numbers he phoned someone else.

“He came back and slapped the betting slip on the counter and said ‘those numbers are wrong’ and said ‘your bet is a loser’.

“I told him that it was on the website and they had up the numbers on the screen in the shop, so I said I was looking for my money.

“He shouted somebody else over and he scored the numbers off the board.” The 67-year-old punter says he felt very badly treated.

He added: “I was obviously aware that something was wrong and I took a photo of the screen.” After speaking to the shop manager for the second time and the company’s customer service team with no success, Hugh contacted the Tele and we called Paddy Power.

Bosses told us the lotto numbers provided to them by a third party were wrong. However, as a gesture of goodwill, they have now agreed to pay out.

A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “Unfortunately our screens showed the wrong winning numbers, so Mr Jackson’s bet didn’t win. But mistakes shouldn’t spoil our punters’ fun, so as an early Christmas present, on this occasion, we’ve decided to pay out his winnings in full.” Mr Jackson said: “I want to thank the Telegraph very much for all its trouble.”
