The Crown says that accused William Paterson, 57, intentionally exposed himself in a sexual manner in view of other passengers.

Prosecutors allege that Paterson exposed himself to one woman in particular with the intention that she would see what he was doing.

Paterson is said to have committed the offence on a Scotrail service between Bishopton and Port Glasgow.

He denied the charge via his defence lawyer Gerry Keenan during a brief appearance from police custody at Greenock Sheriff Court, pictured.

Fiscal depute Lindy Scaife called for Paterson to be barred from travelling on trains between Glasgow and Inverclyde as a condition of his bail.

Solicitor Mr Keenan said: “He would comply with such a stipulation.

“He does work in Glasgow but he would get a bus if required.” The court was told that Paterson works for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Sheriff Ian Fleming granted bail on standard conditions — allowing the accused to continue commuting to and from work by train.

Paterson, of Robert Street, is due to appear in court again on 13 January.

He is scheduled to stand trial on 11 February.
