GREENOCK boxer Frankie Monkhouse is relying on home comforts to help him in his next fight after announcing his comeback to the ring.

The 30-year-old fighter has recently moved back to Inverclyde after a decade working and training in London and he hopes that will give him the edge in his next bout in just over a fortnight’s time.

But the boxer, who is now living in Port Glasgow, will have to wait a little bit longer to do battle on home soil because the showdown will be back down south in the capital.

Frankie is on the card of a live televised event at the Camden Centre on Saturday 18 April.

It will be his comeback fight following a knockout defeat to Latvian Ivans Levickis a year ago.

But the Greenock-born boxer is determined to get his professional career back on track and add to the five wins he already has under his belt since turning pro in 2012.

And he believes living back home in Inverclyde and being close to his family can only help him.

Frankie told the Tele: “After 10 years living and competing in London I have moved back home to Inverclyde, just a stone’s throw from where I grew up, so it’s really great to be home.

“I’m enjoying every minute of it, it’s where I belong.

“I came up for a couple of weeks after my last fight and everyone I met went out of their way to encourage me to stick at it and prove there’s more to come.

“I was really taken aback to see the genuine support I had in my home town and it inspired me to show there’s plenty more to come from me in the game.

“I think they believed in me more than I did myself but it was a real wake up.

“I’ve built up a decent run but it’s only the start and I genuinely believe I’ll go on and win titles and repay that faith and give my backers something to cheer and look forward to. I get a good backing because they know I always give 100 per cent in training and they get their money’s worth in terms of effort when coming to support me. I’m never in a dull fight and whatever may be said about the area they really do back their sportsmen to the end.

“My wife is an engineer and was involved in the Crossrail project in London and she gave that up to move to Scotland to back me so I’m determined that faith will be repaid.

“Not many women would move from London to Port Glasgow to allow you to achieve your ambitions so I think I owe her a few wins.” Frankie has also made changes to his game and joined up with trainer David McKenna at Morrison’s Gym in Glasgow and has been working with fellow Greenock boxer John Simpson.

He is also running his own boxing fitness class to help breed the next generation of local fighters.

Frankie said: “I’ll be part of a big show on live TV so it’s a perfect opportunity to box in front of a big audience and showcase my talents, as well as flying the flag for the area again.

“My following has always enjoyed a party down in the big smoke and I’m sure this time will be no different.

“I’m not looking past it at all, I know I can’t afford to, but ideally I’ll get a good win there then get out again on a show in Scotland before the summer.

“I’ve been talking to local gym owner Harry Woodall and will also be helping run a weekly boxing/fitness class in Greenock, teaching people the basics at their own pace and helping them get fit in good time for summer.

“All comers are welcome regardless of fitness or boxing experience and the classes will go ahead every Thursday from 6-7pm at 15 Dellingburn Street, Unit 3, Greenock.

“We’ve made sure it’ll be an affordable way for people to enjoy getting fit and learn a wee bit about boxing at the same time.” Frankie would like to thank his sponsors OLBG.com, Winner.co.uk, Jenningsbet, Snap Fitness 24-7 and Pinnacle Sports Management for their continued support.
