FLUFFY chicks made a special appearance at a Port Glasgow school.
Youngsters at St John’s Primary were thrilled to watch the baby birds hatch as part of a science week event.
Primary four teacher Martin Craig said: “We received 10 unhatched eggs and we got six hens and four cockerels.
“There was a buzz of excitement around the school.
“Pupils learned about the life cycle of the chicks and other animals.” The six hens have been rehomed, some with pupils, and the cockerels were taken by the project to live on a farm in Edinburgh.
Other activities to promote science ran all week at the school.
Senior pupils visited West College Scotland and workshops were also held in the classroom.
Mr Craig said: “There was a big focus on science to show it can be fun.”
