TESCO"S revamped Extra store in Greenock might not open until Monday, the Tele can reveal.
Supermarket bosses expected to open the shop at the start of this week - but they have now admitted the store will probably not be ready until after the weekend.
The reopening has been hit by a series of delays and now Tesco representatives say the weather is hampering the builders" progress.
After postponing their scheduled Monday opening, Tesco put adverts in the Tele to let readers know the supermarket would open today - but now they have been forced to admit the store is unlikely to open before Monday.
Jennifer Duncan, corporate affairs manager for Tesco Scotland, said: 'The timescale for opening has slipped because of the bad weather over the weekend.
'They had hoped to push everything through, the inside of the store is finished, but the external area has been a problem.
'In the interim, the Inverkip Street store will remain open. We are very sorry for the delay.'
Today, shoppers told the Tele what they thought about the delay. Evelyn McDougall, 67, from Greenock, said: 'The new store was meant to be open by now, so whether they have it ready for Monday I don"t know.'
Gillian Coombes. 27, from Greenock, said: 'I"m not bothered by the delay and I will be using the new one when it opens.'
Gerry Hastie, 58, from Port Glasgow, said: 'It"s not an inconvenience for me because I"ve been going to the Port Tesco anyway. '
Angela Williams, 42, from Greenock, said: 'You"ve got to go and see what it"s like so I will try the new one.'
