Man stole cash while in IRH

A MAN stole hundreds of pounds in cash from Inverclyde Royal Hospital while he was there for treatment.

James Carvill was at IRH for a blood transfusion when he stole a wallet, £840, bank cards and a set of keys.

The 43-year-old said in a statement submitted to the court: 'I was out my face on valium prescribed by nurses and rattling from the non-use of alcohol for three days. I didn"t know what I was doing. I am ashamed of what I have done but don"t remember any of it.'

The thefts took place between 25 and 29 January last year.

Carvill, of Nelson Street, Largs, pleaded guilty to the offence at the sheriff court yesterday.

The court took the unusual step of conducting the case in the cells because Carvill had recently suffered a broken neck and was unable to climb the stairs.

Sheriff Vincent Canavan deferred sentence for six months for Carvill to be of good behaviour.
