POLICE were left stunned when a routine drug search on a woman turned up a brick in her handbag.
Officers quizzed Sandra McKillop when they saw her acting suspiciously on Glasgow Road, in Port Glasgow.
They decided to search the Port woman for drugs - but instead, they discovered a building brick.
The 30-year-old claimed her sister had been robbed of her giro by a gang of teenage girls and she was on her way to comfort her.
She claimed the brick was for protection because she believed one of the robbers had a knife.
McKillop admitted possession of an offensive weapon when she appeared at the sheriff court yesterday.
Sheriff Vincent Canavan gave her a second chance by deferring sentence for six months for her to be of good behaviour.
