GREENOCK Glenpark Harriers Meighan McDade and Shannon Kangley came through a testing time at the Inter-District Cross Country Championships at a bitterly cold Holyrood Park on Saturday.

The pair, who had gained selection for the West of Scotland team after an impressive display in December at Irvine, arrived in Edinburgh on the morning of the race acutely affected by travel sickness. But, despite their difficulties, the girls couldn"t have put in greater effort and more than justified their selection in the under-13 girls" 2.4km event.

Clearly suffering during the race, they still managed to produce fine performances finishing, close behind the chasing pack in a race won by the impressive Kathryn Gillespie from Central AC.

Meighan, after working her way through to 12th place, suffered badly in the final 600 metres, slipping back to 19th (10.52mins).

Shannon, after a poor start, turned that around with a gutsy second lap to move up to 23rd position (11.08mins).
