WORKERS have been sent home from the Royal Bank of Scotland"s Greenock mortgage centre following an outbreak of swine flu.

Several people have contacted the Tele saying staff at the centre have been asked to leave their workplace as a precaution.

It is understood as many as four employees have contracted the virus.

And it is believed between 60 and 90 members of staff have been asked not to come in to work.

Bank bosses stressed it was business as usual and declined to confirm the number of people sent home.

An RBS spokeswoman said: 'We can confirm a number of employees from the Greenock mortgage centre have been confirmed as having the H1N1 virus.

'These members of staff are receiving the appropriate treatment. The safety and well-being of our staff and customers is our priority.

'As a precaution, and following advice, some employees have been asked to remain at home for the time being.

'We are confident the necessary steps have been taken to help prevent further transmission of the virus and, in line with health authority guidelines, we are operating on a business-as-usual basis.'

Another 14 people in Inverclyde have already been confirmed as having the virus.

Several children have the illness including a youngster from Greenock"s Glenbrae Children"s Centre, in Glenbrae Road, and a pupil at St Joseph"s Primary, in Wren Road, Greenock.

A primary three pupil at Moorfoot Primary also contracted the virus, while senior pupils at Port Glasgow High only returned to school on Wednesday after a fifth-year pupil caught swine flu.
