A SCHOOLGIRL was knocked down in Albert Road in Gourock.

The 14-year-old was struck by a car at 3.30pm on Friday and emergency services raced to the scene.

She managed to pick herself up and limped into an ambulance to be taken to Inverclyde Royal, and was released after treatment.

Sergeant Colin McFarlane of Greenock police said: "It would appear she hit the windscreen, the car's windscreen was smashed, and she rolled off it."

The road was closed for 45 minutes and diversions were put in place along Broomberry Drive.

Sgt McFarlane said the girl suffered soft tissue injuries to her shoulder, knee and elbow.

The incident was captured on CCTV.

He said: "We are not anticipating there will be any charges."

The girl, who has not been named, was hit by a Mazda car travelling towards Inverkip, about a hundred yards south of the pool.

Anyone with information should call road policing in Dumbarton on 01389 822123.
