THREE Greenock teenagers were allegedly found under the influence of drugs at school - and one was so badly affected she had to be rushed to hospital.

The three girls - two aged 14 and one aged 13 - attend Greenock Academy.

Police confirmed today that, because of their age, they have all been reported to the Children's Reporter, the child protection and youth justice system for people up to the age of 16.

One of the pupils allegedly swallowed four valium tablets and was in such a serious condition she had to be rushed by ambulance to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Police attended the incident at the school at noon last Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: "One of the girls was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment. Inquiries are continuing. There are obviously some sensitivities involved.

Police confirmed the Children's Reporter has been notified of the incident.

The spokesman added: "The Children's Reporter will decide if the pupils will be referred to a Children's Hearing."

A hearing is a legal meeting arranged to make decisions about children and young people who are having problems.

A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said: "This is not something we would comment on at this stage."
