Trophy-winning end to 100th year
Whinhill Golf Club were recently crowned champions of the local Muirshiel Trophy league for the 2011 season.
It was a fitting year for the club to win the competition with it also being their centenary year.
The Muirshiel Trophy is a league contested by the scratch teams of Gleddoch, Gourock, Port Glasgow and Whinhill Golf Clubs.
The competition was, as ever, closely contested with very little separating all four clubs.
Whinhill Golf Club posted their total of 3.5 points from six matches with the vital half point coming from a 4-4 draw at Gleddoch in the Whinhill's last match of the season.
Gleddoch and Gourock shared second place on three points with Port Glasgow finishing with 2.5 points showing how tight the league was with only one point separating first from fourth.
The future is bright for the Whinhill Golf Club with seven of the 17 man squad being under the age of 22 and recent products of the club's junior section - a reward for the club's continuing commitment to the development of junior golf at the club.
The Whinhill Golf Club would like to thank gents' team captain John Donald and his team for their efforts in representing the club in the league and would also like to thank Gleddoch, Gourock and Port Glasgow Golf Club's for participating in an enjoyable league.
