Three and easy for men's hockey team
Kelburne 5's 0-3 Greenock Men's 2nd
2020 Renewables Greenock Hockey Club Men's 2nd team picked up a comfortable three points with a 3-0 win away to Kelburne 5's.
Greenock completely dominated the first half and opened the scoring early through Andy Hair.
Greenock were awarded a penalty corner early on and despite having his initial strike saved by the Kelburne goalkeeper, Hair flicked home the rebound.
Greenock doubled their lead soon after from another penalty corner. Skipper Greg McDougall's initial strike from the top of the 'D' was saved dramatically by the home 'keeper, but the rebound fell to Kieran Begley to finish.
Greenock continued to create chance after chance, and really should have put the game to bed by half-time, but they could not extend their lead due to a combination of superb goalkeeping and some woeful finishing.
At the other end of the pitch, Greenock goalkeeper Scott Jones was simply a spectator without having to produce a single save. The second half was a much more sloppy affair, with some poor defending allowing Kelburne to create a number of chances, though they could only produce one shot on goal which went wide. Greenock then had a goal disallowed for a perceived foul in the build-up, but they made the game safe late on through Bruce McKechnie and held on to win 3-0.
The man of the match was sweeper Bruce McKechnie. Thanks go to the supporters who travelled to support the team, and to Neil McGarva for umpiring.
