Pioneering programme launched for parents
A PIONEERING new programme has been launched to offer expert parenting support to Inverclyde mums and dads.
The 'Triple P Programme', being introduced by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and teenagers and to build stronger family relationships.
It is aimed at outlining 'simple and practical strategies' that can be adapted to suit parents' own needs.
Mums and dads from right across the area will be able to get support on a range of issues affecting their children's life.
Health chiefs say that the arrival of the programme in the district is essential.
Dr Linda de Caestecker, director of public health, said: "Inverclyde is home to many of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland with high levels of child poverty, substance abuse and low life expectancy.
"As an NHS we need to do all we can to address these problems and one of our priorities is ensuring children get the best possible start in life.
"The introduction of the Triple P Programme for parents in Inverclyde will provide advice and support that has been proven to work.
"For more than 30 years its practical strategies have been tried and tested and have been shown to help families in all types of situations."
The health board is hosting a major conference on parenting to coincide with the launch of the programme.
It is being attended by specialists from around the globe, who are sharing their knowledge and experience of positive parenting.
