Christmas party on tonight CLYDEVIEW Academy pupils hold their annual Christmas party tonight.

The Christmas Cracker event for S1-S4 pupils runs from 7pm with dancing, face painting and plenty of games.

Meanwhile, tomorrow night S5 and S6 students will gather at the school for their formal ceilidh dance which also begins at 7pm.


Greenock youth hub has hundreds of members A BUSY youth hub based in Greenock town centre now boasts more than 400 members.

Inverclyde’s iYouth Zone, which celebrated its first birthday last week, is proving very popular with youngsters from all across the district.

Lots of young people were invited to the Nicolson Street youth hub on Thursday to take part in the anniversary celebrations for the successful lottery-funded youth project.

During its first 12 months, music and drama workshops were held and young people have raised money for worthy causes like Macmillan Cancer Support and Yorkhill Children’s Hospital.

There is also a steering group formed of young people who oversee the planning and programming for the project.


Festive lunch taking place today AMAZON bosses are laying on a festive lunch for a group of adults with learning disabilities.

They stage the event in Port Glasgow this afternoon.


Greenock School seeks residents' memories of music festival A GREENOCK school is appealing to people to come forward with their memories of the Inverclyde Music Festival to mark the event’s centenary.

Aileymill Primary is celebrating the milestone anniversary by sharing stories from people at the heart of the event since it started in April 1914.

There will be four prizes of £25 for the best stories across four categories.

The festival takes place in February and preparations are well under way to make it a spectacular occasion.

Call for living wage to be intoduced INVERCLYDE Council wants all its approved contractors and suppliers to pay their employees the living wage.

Council leader Stephen McCabe has vowed to use available legislation to encourage them to pay workers £7.50 an hour.

Inverclyde Council already pays its own staff the hourly rate that has been recommended by independent foundations.


Thanks to mystery benefactor THE society for unborn children wants to thank an anonymous benefactor who donated £100 to the group.

A spokesman for the society said: “We want to thank the person who made this kind donation.

“We suspect it may have been an elderly person — £100 is a lot of money.”
Pildrimage to Rome arranged for next year A PILGRIMAGE to Rome has been arranged for 23 to 30 April 2014 and can now be booked.

It will include a day trip to Assisi and will take place for the canonisation of Pope John XXIII and John Paul II.

Greenock shop staff in charity fundraiser BIG-HEARTED shop workers are baking up sweet treats for charity.

Staff at Bon Marche in West Blackhall Street in Greenock are selling home baking to customers every day until Saturday to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The charity’s Christmas decorations will also be available.


Festive coffee morning volunteers wanted A CHRISTMAS coffee morning is being held on Saturday at St John’s Church in Port Glasgow in aid of church funds.

There will be tea, coffee, soup and sandwiches.
