AN angry Port Glasgow dad has slammed housing bosses over a four-year battle with dampness and mould at his flat.

Andrew Lepick, 29, and partner Laura McPherson, 31, say their one-bedroom flat in Campsie Road, where they live with son Brayden, four, and daughter Sarah, one, is riddled with dampness.

The couple have stayed in the River Clyde Homes property for seven years but have reached breaking point following a series of issues with flooding and water damage.

Dampness blights the bedroom and toilet of the property and the family say they have had to bin four mouldy mattresses — including one which was bought just 12 weeks ago.

Andrew said: “Flooding happens all the time. It’s unreal, a joke.

“River Clyde Homes don’t do anything about it, or send the wrong people up to fix the problems.” His partner Laura is fed up with the situation and insists that the problems are caused by the fabric of the property.

Laura said: “I’ve been cleaning the affected areas but the dampness and mould just keeps coming back through.

“They are not doing anything about it.

“I’ve been on at them for years since my son was one and he will be five in March.

“My children are becoming unwell because of the conditions.

“River Clyde Homes say they are not paying for the contents of the property but just the shell of the house. That’s fair enough but if they fixed the shell then there wouldn’t be a problem.” Bosses at the housing association say they were unaware of some of the problems but will fix them now that they have been brought to their attention.

Hugh Lindsay, property care quality assurance manager, said: “We have had reports of water penetration to the property previously which have been addressed; we had not been made aware of a problem with the gutters which will now be dealt with.

“Problems of mould and condensation can be a lifestyle issue and we will always work with our customers to help resolve this. In this particular case we are providing a new ventilation system for the property, which if used properly, should help to solve this problem.

“We have also committed to replacing broken window vents. This has been communicated to our customers.”
