AN ANNUAL festive extravaganza in aid of a Greenock care home has raised an incredible £11,000.

The 12th Little Sisters of the Poor Christmas Ball took place held in Greenock Town Hall recently – and was another massive success for the charity.

The glittering event, recognised by many in Inverclyde as the traditional start to the Christmas season festivities, was supported by many local businesses and artists with another array of amazing auction items and raffle prizes which were kindly donated.

A pencil drawing by renowned Scottish artist Peter Howson, who is a big supporter of the Little Sisters, alone raised a magnificent sum of £1,800.

The piece, named ‘Lego’, features Howson along with his daughter Lucie.

Brian Clements, of McTear’s Auctioneers, once again graciously conducted the auction.

Organiser Christine Bills said: “The event, which was very well attended as always, was a great success.

“The generosity of the supporters resulted in a cheque for £11,000 being presented to the Little Sisters.” The Town Hall looked fabulous on the night and the atmosphere was buoyant as guests danced away to the sound of popular local band Freedom.

They also enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Tony Buckley and the team at ICE Catering.

Organisers have deemed the ball, which took place on Friday 21 November a huge success and tables are already being snapped up for next year as the focus turns to 2015.

Christine said: “The ladies’ dresses were stunning and the glamourous event was enjoyed by all who attended, with spots already reserved for next year.

“Mother Stephen and the community would like to thank all those who supported the event, which the ball committee hailed as an overwhelming success.”
