A GREENOCK thief has admitted raiding a house in the town’s west end.

Ross Gallacher stole a number of valuables during the break-in to the property on Finnart Street.

The 28-year-old was on bail regarding another criminal matter at the time of the offence.

Gallacher was also subject to a strict court order not to enter Finnart Street at any time.

He pleaded guilty on indictment to the housebreaking and to helping himself to a games console and a telephone inside the flat.

Defence lawyer David Tod told Greenock Sheriff Court: “Mr Gallacher advises me that it was at a time when he was abusing valium.

“He has nothing analogous on his record for dishonesty, but has been on indictment before.” Gallacher carried out the raid on 14 June last year.

A woman co-accused who appeared alongside him in the dock had her not guilty plea to taking part in the break-in accepted by prosecutors.

Sheriff Ian Fleming deferred sentence on Gallacher for a background report and continued his bail. But the lawman warned him: “When the case recalls all options are open.” Gallacher, of Kelly Street in Greenock, is due back in court on 29 April.
