First the White House fell onscreen. Then, London fell.

Now screen baddies are going after Paisley actor Gerard Butler and Air Force One in Angel Has Fallen (Angel is the call name for the President's plane).

Butler will return as Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the third film from the mayhem-prone Fallen franchise, Elizabeth Wolfe, a publicist for Millennium Films, confirms to our sister title USA TODAY.

Butler first starred in 2013's Olympus Has Fallen, directed by Anton Fuqua, which featured disgraced Secret Service agent Banning trapped inside the White House during a terrorist attack, and working to save the President (Aaron Eckhart).

The action flick spawned a sequel after making $99 million domestically and $161 million at the worldwide box office.

March's London Has Fallen, from director Babak Najafi, featured Banning (and Butler) in England, where world leaders were in peril during a massive assassination attempt. The sequel performed softer in the U.S. than its predecessor ($62 million total box office and a second place for its opening weekend) and was a flop with critics — with a 26% positive critical rating on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

But London Has Fallen went on to make $195 million worldwide.

For Angel Has Fallen, Butler will serve as a producer, as he did for the other two movies. No director has been announced for the project which is set to begin in 2017
