A SHOPLIFTER apologised to cops after they nicked her for stealing a haul worth hundreds from popular retailer Marks and Spencer.

Tracy Boyle, 45, was in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after pleading guilty to the offence.

Boyle, who appeared from custody but lives in Balgorie Road in Mosspark, committed the theft on November 1 at the retailer’s flagship Argyle Street store.

The court heard from the Procurator Fiscal depute that security officers watched Boyle via CCTV when she was in the store at around 5.30pm.

The Procurator Fiscal depute explained: “The security officers watched CCTV at the locus and they observed a female later identified as the accused in the store.

“She made her way out of the store in possession of large bags.

“In seeing this, the security officers had cause to stop her.

“She was taken back in the store. She was found to be in possession of numerous stolen items.”

Her haul from Marks and Spencer was worth £787.34 and included jewellery, clothes, handbags, a clock and toiletries.

The Procurator Fiscal explained all items were fully recovered and when Boyle was cautioned and charged by cops, she said: “I am really sorry.”

Boyle’s defence agent told the court that her client “appreciates her predicament was brought upon herself.”

Her defence agent explained that when her client was remanded for the offence, she was stressed about the impact it would have on her family.

The court heard that Boyle was subject to a number of several orders, and in fact had been bailed on March 3 and April 22 for other matters when she committed this shoplifting offence.

As a result she was remanded into custody when she was arrested.

Boyle will now spend Christmas in prison because of the offence after she was sentenced to 120 days in custody.

This sentence was reduced from 180 days because she plead guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Her time in prison will be backdated to November 2.
