A Twitter user shared her hilarious response a campaign to end loneliness at Christmas after she spotted her GRAN in the pictures with the First Minister.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon visited a sheltered housing development in Edinburgh yesterday after pledging her support to Age Scotland's festive campaign.

The campaign helps to combat loneliness at Christmas by signing a pledge to visit an older neighbour.

However Twitter user Leigh-Ann Tomkinson shared her hilarious reaction to the photos after she spotted her gran enjoying tea with the First Minister.

She wrote: "No everyday u go on twitter n randomly see ur gran wi nicki sturgeon saying she's lonely as xmas. NAW she's no she comes to my house."

She followed up by replying: "haha anything for a cuppa bless her."

Her reaction to the tweet has tickled Twitter users, with her reaction being retweeted almost 1000 times.

The project was created after new figures from the charity showed almost 65,000 Scots aged 60 and over feel lonelier during the festive period.

Brian Sloan, chief executive of Age Scotland, urged people to visit older neighbours, family and friends who may feel isolated at this time of year.

He said: "It is often life events such as bereavement, ill-health and complex long-term health conditions such as diabetes and arthritis, all more common in later life, that give rise to feelings of loneliness and which if left unaddressed can cause long-term misery."
