PITCH perfect school pupils will prove they have conquered the ‘bear necessities’ of singing — when they take centre stage at a showpiece national charity concert.

The Inverkip Primary School Choir have been specially chosen to perform at ‘Pudsey goes to the Musicals’ — a show in aid of BBC Children in Need, featuring the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, West End star Scott Davies and former Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.

Avril McLoughlin, a primary seven pupil at the school, says she can’t wait for the event in the City Halls in Glasgow on Tuesday night.

The 11-year-old told the Tele: “It’s really exciting to perform with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

“They are going to play a few pieces and we are going to be singing with them.

“We’re going to be performing songs from The Jungle Book, including the ‘Bare Necessities’ and ‘I Wanna Be Like You’.

“I think before I go on stage I’ll be excited but nervous at the same time.

“I really enjoy singing as I go into my own little world and it makes me feel happy and free.”

Before their big moment alongside Children in Need mascot Pudsey the Bear, the children have been rehearsing with Alison and Fiona McNeill from Celtic folk rock band Reely Jiggered, pictured.

Paul Giffney, who is the acting depute head teacher at the school, says this fantastic opportunity is all down to both Fiona and Alison.

He said: “It came about as Alison was asked to provide a choir for the show by a contact of hers at the BBC.

“She chose Inverkip Primary because she has ties with the school and has worked with us for a long time. The school choir is made up of 34 pupils from primary five, six and seven.

“We are so happy that Alison picked our school.

“The pupils have been working so hard ahead of the show and are all so enthusiastic about it.”

The concert, which will be presented by performer Jamie MacDougall, begins at 6.30pm. Tickets are £15. To book phone 0141 353 8000.
