TWO teachers have been suspended from St Columba’s School in Kilmacolm – and both are under investigation by Police Scotland, the Tele can reveal.

Rector David Girdwood has confirmed the suspensions and said they were ‘entirely unrelated matters’.

It’s understood the school has written to parents to advise them of the development.

Mr Girdwood told the Telegraph: “One suspension is a matter which is not directly related to the school.

“Suspension is a precautionary measure, and, in line with school policy, is undertaken while appropriate investigations are ongoing.”

The rector added: “Both matters are under investigation by Police Scotland, and I am, therefore, unable to comment further.

“Any questions should be directed to the police.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm a complaint has been received regarding a sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

It is understood no-one has been arrested and that inquiries are at a very early stage. The school has taken steps to ensure that affected classes will continue to be taught and arrange temporary cover.

Commenting on the other suspension, the incident described as not directly related to the school, the police spokeswoman said: “A 56-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with non-recent alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.”

The fee-paying, independent St Columba’s charges up  to £11,000 a year and bosses say it is one of Scotland’s highest achieving schools.
