TWO TV stars proved they were ‘game for a laugh’ when they popped in to help children rehearse for their school show.

Jane McCarry, who plays Isa in hit BBC comedy Still Game, and former Taggart star Colin McCredie, helped Kilmacolm Primary pupils prepare for their ‘laugh a minute’ school production.

Their show entitled ‘Rats - The Pied Piper of Kilmacolm’ impressed both Jane and Colin who have been working closely with the primary four to seven pupils before the curtains go up.

Colin, said: “It’s great working with them.

“I’ve been giving them pointers on being louder as the audience only hears the lines once, so it’s about making sure they can hear everything.”

Jane, who is returning to the Beacon this year to star in the panto Snow White, said she was thrilled to assist the children with their rehearsals.

She said: “It’s important for them to see us as normal people, not faces off the TV, and for them to realise that we make mistakes all the time.

“We want to encourage the children and be positive.”
Jenny McKeown, 10, said she enjoyed getting feedback from the stars.

The primary six pupil said: “Its been fun, especially as I’m a big fan of Still Game.

“We’ve been learning how to project our voices as much as we can.”

Poppy Paterson, who plays the pied piper, added: “It’s really weird to see Jane and Colin in real life as you’re used to seeing them on TV.”

School head teacher Simone McCredie, who is married to Colin, says the children really enjoyed their masterclass.

She said: “They’ve been rehearsing for a few weeks and to build up their skills we organised for Colin and Jane to come in and watch them.

“Actor Andy Paterson has also come in to help and I have to thank the teachers and support staff who have worked so hard on this.”

“It has really built their team spirit.”

The school show is tomorrow at 1.30 and 7pm.
