A WEMYSS Bay butcher's sizzling streak of success shows no signs of stopping - after he notched up another string of tasty awards.

Nigel Ovens, who owns Mearns T McCaskie, passed the taste test at the recent Craft Butcher Awards evaluation for beefburgers, speciality burgers and own cured bacon.

The renowned butcher won gold awards for McCaskie's traditional beefburger, chicken shourma burger, streaky smoked bacon, smoked back bacon and beef bacon.

Judges also awarded the butcher five silver awards.

The prizes are the latest in a catalogue of award wins for Nigel over the last couple of years.

Mr Ovens told the Tele: "We're delighted to find our steak burger maintained the gold standard and a few other golds in the speciality and bacon categories.

"We don't enter these awards for the accolades but to make sure our high standards are being maintained."

The awards come after shortly after Princess Anne visited the Shore Road shop.

Mr Ovens added: "She was so nice and spoke to every single staff member.

"We gave her a hamper and we got great feedback about it."

Mr Ovens was delighted to be presented with his awards at the recent regional meeting in Garfield House Hotel, Stepps.

Paul Boyle, who is the president of the Scottish Craft Butchers said: “These evaluations always reveal really appealing products that craft butchers make and sell.

"The diverse range of interesting products come as a response to customer becoming more adventurous with their tastes and they are always keen to support local businesses who make innovative quality products.

"It is always worth going the extra mile for something extra special.”
