A MAN and a woman have appeared in court accused of carrying out the murder of an Inverkip man.

David Campbell, 31, and Laura Johnston, 34, denied murdering Daniel Brennan, 51, at his home in Bridgend, Inverkip, on 7 March this year during a brief appearance at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday.

It is alleged that, while acting with Thomas Cameron, who has since died -they murdered Mr Brennan by repeatedly striking him on the head and body with a hammer or similar implement.

It is then claimed they searched one of his trouser pockets with intent to rob him.

The pair also deny committing a breach of the peace by shouting, swearing, demanding entry, banging on the door, smashing a window and forcing entry to the house.

They also pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice by throwing items of footwear and clothing into Adrossan Harbour on 7 March.

Campbell, whose address was not given, and Johnston, of Glasgow Street, Ardrossan, appeared before judge Lord Uist and a further preliminary hearing was set for later this month. They will appear again then.
