ROAD PROBE: Bankfoot roundabout at the foot of the dual carriageway is to be the subject of a review.
ROADS chiefs have confirmed they will review the layout of the Bankfoot roundabout near Inverkip on the A78.
The roundabout review has been agreed as part of a wider review into the A78 which also saw cameras set up to record traffic movement at the junction where the road meets the village's Main Street.
In a document compiled following a recent meeting with councillors and MSPs, officials say that new 'safety measures are being considered at Bankfoot'.
The report said: "Consideration has been given to the roundabout geometry and the designer has provided a reply to an audit.
"The roundabout and approaches have been highlighted and Transport Scotland are currently reviewing a set of remedial measures to reduce vehicle entry speeds on the connecting roads.
"The remedial measures being investigated include vehicle activated signs, on the roundabout, or on the approaches to the roundabout."
Meanwhile, officials admitted that the traffic lights along the A78 route at Inverclyde Academy have caused problems.
The report said: "Transport Scotland recognises these new signals did not perform as expected when they were commissioned.
"Our operating company for the A78, Amey, has since made significant alterations to the system since its installation, including replacement of the controller programme and replacement of the conventional traffic detectors with advanced video-detection equipment.
"Operation of the signals continues to be monitored until the end of the defects period."
Councillor Gerry Dorrian, who attended the recent talks, said: "I am delighted they have kicked off the process by installing the cameras to monitor the traffic to determine the problems at the Sainsbury junction."
