A KILMACOLM man has won a top award for his role in helping organise the Commonwealth Games.

Ian Reid, who is the chief financial officer at Glasgow 2014, the official organising committee, won the ‘Emerging Finance Director of the Year’ award at the Scottish Accountancy and Finance Awards.

Ian says he was overwhelmed to be recognised at the prestigious event at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow.

He said: “Winning was brilliant.

“I genuinely didn’t expect to get this award and I feel honoured to be recognised amongst Scotland’s finance community.

“I think it is a compliment to the team at Glasgow 2014 Ltd to be recognised in this way in a year that marks the Games that we are all working so hard to support.” Ian was taken on as a finance manager at Glasgow 2014 six years ago.

He was then appointed as the finance director, in charge of finance, human resources, legal, project management and office management, as well as taking on a leadership role within the executive team where he manages a team of over 80 people.

Myriam Madden, deputy president of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants which sponsored the event, said Ian was a very worthy winner.

She said: “I was delighted to attend the Scottish Accountancy and Finance Awards 2014 and very pleased to be able to present the Emerging Finance Director of the Year Award to Ian. He wowed the judges with his impressive all round performance in supporting the development of the business.”
