A PENSIONER who lives in a bedsit claims she is being charged for thousands more units of electricity than she’s used.

Carolyn Livingstone, 72, is fighting an ongoing battle with Scottish Power to get the right bill for her sheltered flat — and it has been going on for months.

The grandmother, who lives in Kilmacolm’s Glebe Court, contacted the energy giant on 26 April with a meter reading two days before she moved in.

She rang the supplier back numerous times but says she has received two estimated bills which don’t tie up with the power she’s used.

Carolyn said: “I got a bill the other day for £80 and I’m being charged for 5,500 units more than I’ve used.

“It doesn’t correspond with my readings.

“You get put through to a call centre and I just feel no-one is prepared to listen to me.

“I’ve given readings four or five times.

“I’ve had a bill for £40 on 29 May and £80 on 12 July and I’ve paid £25 — I’m not paying it in full until I get the correct bill because it’s more difficult to claim it back.

“I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told that I can’t — it’s ridiculous.

“It’s been absolutely horrendous.” Carolyn suspects there may be a mix-up with the meter because the property has lain empty for several years.

The senior citizen says she has called the power giant at least seven times but no-one has got back to her.

Carolyn said: “I was promised a call two weeks ago and I’m still waiting for that phone call.

“I think because I live in sheltered housing they think ‘she’s getting on in years’ — but I’ve still got a brain.” Carolyn’s son Alan, who lives in England, is so incensed over the worry the wrangle is causing his mother that he is taking the case to energy regulator Ofgem.

Meanwhile Carolyn, has also taken advice from Inverclyde Advocacy Service, said: “I am fighting for my rights to get the bill I should be paying for.

“I’m not paying for the whole of the building — there are 27 flats.” A spokeswoman for Scottish Power said: “We are investigating the matter to try to resolve the problem.”
