TWO blossoming bakers raised funds for charity with a delicious street stall in Inverkip.

Keira Whiteford and Zara Hall spent hours in the kitchen creating cakes and tasty tiffin including snickerdoodles, zebra cake, tablet, cupcakes and iced fingers.

The 10-year-old pair then set up a table in Spey Road on Saturday to sell the goods to the public.

It proved a huge hit with sweet-toothed villagers who donated a total of £135 to sample the treats.

That money will now go towards Malavi School in Malawi, which is twinned with Inverkip Primary, which the girls attend.

Zara’s mum, Gillian Hall, 45, of Sandhaven Place, said: “Zara religiously watches the Great British Bake-Off on TV - she’s mad keen on baking.

“She and Keira got together, organised it all and baked everything themselves.

“They even made wee iced fingers and had an icing pen to put people’s names on them, so they were very enterprising.

“Their primary is partnered with Malavi School and they were made aware of crop failure along with other stresses and strains and not having enough food.

“They wanted to do something to help.” In May, the Tele reported how Inverkip Primary held a Malawi Day to raise money to ensure pupils at the African school received a daily meal of porridge.

Now kind-hearted Keira and Zara can give themselves a pat-a-cake on the back for the edible efforts!
