A LOCAL mum’s writing career has gone global — after a chapter she wrote during her daughter’s night feeds was snapped up by an American publisher.

Jaelithe Leigh-Brown, 36, is the only contributor outside of North America to be featured in the new book ‘Teenage Girls: The Guide for Health, Wellness and Self Esteem’.

The book was published in the USA in August and Jaelithe has just received the first hard copy of the book on this side of the Atlantic.

She said: “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. I have a box of books upstairs and I keep thinking ‘that is my picture on the back’.

“I feel very grateful to have had this opportunity.

“It just shows you that if you take baby steps and keep on going, you can achieve anything.” Jaelithe, who is also the founder of Mrs Mojo — a fitness and life coach business — lives in Lochans Drive in Inverkip with her husband Dan, an MOD policeman.

They have two boys Koen, five, Torin, three, and a 21-month old daughter Eden.

Jaelithe hails from County Durham but has lived in Inverkip since 2009 and has embraced village life.

She said: “Inverkip is absolutely lovely — it’s like a home from home here. We keep pinching ourselves. There are gorgeous views, friendly people and brilliant schools.” It was during her night feeds with Eden that she replied to a post on the LinkedIn website which advertised for co-authors for the book, putting her in touch with the publisher and editor, Linda Ellis Eastman in Kentucky.

Jaelithe had an interview over the phone and was invited to submit a chapter.

She said: “Over the next two months, every morning at 3am and 5am when Eden was feeding I started to write the chapter on my smart phone. Then I edited the finished piece and sent it off for approval.” The successful entrepreneur, who gave up her job as a charity press officer to start her own business, has already started writing another book – again in the wee small hours.

She joked: “I’m aiming to make the New York Times’ best seller list.” Jaelithe is also hoping to launch online bootcamps to help busy mums find time to be ‘healthy, happy and confident.’ She said: “It’s really hard to juggle everything at times, but I am determined to spend quality time with my kids and be able to help people with my relaunched business. Oh, and I will find time for sleep at some point too!”
