THE Inverkip woman who lost her £3,000-plus wedding and engagement bands has been reunited with them.

The Telegraph told yesterday how Julie Smith, 29, was in tears after leaving her emerald cut diamond sparklers on a train.

But after speaking to us she got a phone call ‘out of the blue’ telling her that her cherished rings had been found.

Julie said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“I don’t know if I was in more shock at losing them or that I was getting them back.

“I thought that they were lost forever, I’m so relieved.

“It just goes to show that there are honest people out there.” Julie, who works in Glasgow, had taken her rings off to moisturise her hands before leaving the train without them at Hillington West to go shopping with her mum last Friday.

Minutes later a Bishopton man got on board the Glasgow to Gourock service at Paisley and found them lying on the seat she’d vacated.

The man’s girlfriend, Gemma Christie, phoned Julie and told her: “I’ve got your lost rings.” It came after a Facebook appeal by the Tele, which included Julie’s phone number, was shared extensively on the web.

Julie — who handed over reward money, a thank-you card and a box of Quality Street to the woman — said: “I am eternally grateful.

“I went straight to Bishopton to collect them and they’re back on my finger again now.

“I told the woman that I couldn’t thank her enough. I’m just delighted.” Gemma, 21, said: “To see the big smile on Julie’s face was great.”
