Gavin Levitt from Inverkip took the bizarre step as a bet to raise cash for Children with Cancer UK.

The 37-year-old who is training for the London Marathon in April wanted to raise £1,000 in a month.

So to make the fundraising a bit more interesting, he decided to recreate the Money Supermarket advert which features an office worker striding through town in hotpants and high heels.

Gavin’s clip quickly became an internet sensation and he has already raised £2,680 for the charity.

The clip, filmed at the London Eye, has already had 100,00 hits on Youtube.

In it 5ft’11 Gavin is seen stutting his stuff in his size 11s to the tune of Pussycat Dolls hit ‘Don’t Cha’.

Gavin, a senior construction manager with Lawtech Ltd, works in London for 10 days then spends four days at home in Millhouse Road in the village.

He told the Telegraph he has been stunned by the response.

He said: “It’s been amazing. My friends made a bet with me to raise £1,000 in a month, so I decided to recreate the advert.” The burly runner is more used to trainers than high heels and admitted the stunt was a bit embarrasing – but worth it to help a good cause.

He quipped: “In London it’s very different walking down the street in high heels.

“You’re treated as a bit of a movie star. Lots of people wanted photos when I was getting filmed.

“I think I carried off the heels quite well, but it’s a good job I’ve got a thick skin but it was worth taking a bit of ribbing for the benefit of the charity.” He was happy to ramp up the stakes by taking part in a ‘strut off’ last week with actor Michael Van Schoick, who starred in the original TV advert.

Gavin said: “We were at the embankment and we walked in total about half a mile in heels on the cobbles. It was tricky. There were crowds and crowds of people following us around.” The building boss moved to Scotland 11 years ago and previously stayed in Kilmacolm, before moving to Inverkip in 2009.

His seven-year-old daughter Skye, who attends Kilmacolm Primary, helped him out with his moves.

His company is also matching everything raised and is also asking for sponsorship from contractors.

Gavin said: “It’s an opportunity to make a difference and I’m grabbing it with both hands.” If anyone wants to sponsor Gavin they should visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GavinLevitt
