IT was ‘par-tee’ time at Kilmacolm Golf Club as one of the country’s most famous female golfers swung by for a one-off workshop.

Trish Johnson, who has 19 European Tour wins and three LPGA Tour victories to her name, took time out of her busy schedule to host a golf clinic and demonstration event for players of all ages and abilities earlier this week.

The timing of her visit coincides with her appearance at the Dundonald Links to defend her Ladies Scottish Open title and her appearance the following week at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Turnberry.

Alison Watson, who is the captain of Kilmacolm’s ladies section, was thrilled that the golf star chose to share tips to help inspire players both young and old.

She said: “We are delighted that Trish has chosen to come to Kilmacolm Golf Club in what is a big month for Scottish golf. “We have always had a strong ladies section at the club, but this visit will really motivate the women and young golfers just starting out, as well as hopefully encouraging more females to take up the sport.” Jackie Sayers and her daughters Natalie, nine, and Zoe, 10, who are members of the golf club, watched in awe as Trish swung into action.

Jackie said: “It’s brilliant to see how a professional golfer approaches and strikes the ball.

“I think it’s a great way to inspire people to take up the sport.” Eighty-two-year-old golfer Sally Dillon, who tees up four times a week and has a handicap of 21, also enjoyed watching Trish in action.

She said: “It has been very interesting to listen to her and I’ll try to take on board the advice she has given.

“I used to be a hockey player but I took up golf in 1962 and I used to have a handicap of six but I now play with a handicap of 21.” The club has already seen a host of new female golfers to take up the game this year through their free coaching programme, Introduction to Golf. Their PGA professional Iain Nicholson has been running free sessions in the community which have proved popular with women.

He said: “If people are looking for a new challenge, want to get healthy and active, are keen to meet more friends or spend quality time with their family, then golf offers it all.” Iain was keen to thank Yonex who sponsored the event.
